Ida is among the strongest hurricanes on record to make landfall in Louisiana, with its maximum sustained winds of 150 mph at landfall matching those of Laura (2020) and the ‘Last Island’ hurricane of 1856.
Hotels are helping to house thousands of Hurricane Ida victim as FEMA picks up the tab. Jefferson Parish says its hotels are housing not only residents but recovery workers. New Orleans & Company says in the city plenty of hotel rooms are available for tourists.
Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says he is getting complaints about insurance companies not following through with inspections. He says he has taken steps to get more adjusters on the ground in Louisiana.
